The City I&T Grand Challenge empowers and supports innovators to contribute to the city through the power of innovation and technology.

To progress beyond questions and effectively tackle challenges, we must foster a dynamic innovation and technology movement. The City I&T Grand Challenge is more than a competition. It is a journey of co-creation with innovators like you, shaping the future of Hong Kong. By participating in the 2nd City I&T Grand Challenge, you will engage in a competition with like-minded fellow innovators, collectively bringing forth innovative ideas that drive positive change in Hong Kong. Submit your innovative idea as individuals or teams on the City I&T Grand Challenge website under any of the 4 groups:

  • Open Group
  • University/Tertiary Institute Group
  • Secondary School Group (Lower: F1-3 (Year 7-9) and Upper: F4-6 (Year 10-13))
  • Primary School Group - P1-6 (Year 1-6)

 

Mid-Jul 2024

Shortlisted participants will pitch their ideas to the judges

 

Mid-Aug 2024

Finalists of each group will compete for championship to receive attractive cash prizes/coupons, trophies and certificates.

 

After Grand Pitch

Winners from Open Group and University / Tertiary Institute Group will have the opportunity to receive a co-creation fund of up to HK$1,000,000 and other support to further develop the winning solutions for trial and adoption by government departments or public organisations.

 

Winners will participate in public events and promotion campaigns to showcase their solutions/prototypes and share trial outcomes.

Rules and Regulations

Submit your innovative idea as individuals or teams under one of the 4 groups:

1) Open Group

Eligibility:

Persons in Hong Kong or from outside of Hong Kong who are 16 years of age or above

Submission Requirements:

  • Select one sub-theme and describe the solution by answering 3 questions in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words each)
  • Elaborate the mechanism of the solution with a presentation deck (maximum 10 slides and 30MB)
  • A URL link to a YouTube video (Optional; maximum 3 minutes)
  • Cover images (Optional; maximum 3 and maximum 2MB each)

Judging Criteria:

  • Benefits to user and community (40%)
  • Innovativeness and uniqueness of technology (30%)
  • Feasibility of prototyping and trials (20%)
  • Team’s capability and entrepreneurship (10%)

2) University/Tertiary Institute Group

Eligibility:

Full-time students enrolled at any local or non-local university or tertiary institute

Submission Requirements:

  • Select one sub-theme and describe the solution by answering 3 questions in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words each)
  • Elaborate the mechanism of the solution with a presentation deck (maximum 10 slides and 30MB)
  • A URL link to a YouTube video (Optional; maximum 3 minutes)
  • Cover images (Optional; maximum 3 and maximum 2MB each)

Judging Criteria:

  • Benefits to user and community (40%)
  • Innovativeness and uniqueness of technology (30%)
  • Feasibility of prototyping and trials (20%)
  • Team’s capability and entrepreneurship (10%)

3) Secondary School Group

Eligibility:

Students attending any secondary school registered in Hong Kong

Submission Requirements:

  • Lower (F1-3 / Year 7-9): Describe the solution in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words) and answer 2 questions in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words each)
  • Upper (F4-6 / Year 10-13): Describe the solution in English or Chinese (maximum 150 words) and answer 3 questions in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words each)
  • A drawing or concept board (maximum 2MB)
  • A supplementary document (Optional; maximum 5 pages)
  • A video with a unique URL on any video sharing platform (Optional; maximum 1 minute)

Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity and innovativeness (40%)
  • Problem identification and understanding (30%)
  • Impacts and benefits to target end users (30%)

4) Primary School Group

Eligibility:

Students attending any primary school registered in Hong Kong

Submission Requirements:

  • A drawing (maximum 2MB) with description in English or Chinese (maximum 100 words)

Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity and innovativeness (40%)
  • Problem identification and understanding (30%)
  • Impacts and benefits to target end users (30%)
