Medication adherence means the patients’ behaviours of taking medication as prescribed by the doctor. It is a major challenge for elderly health care with chronic diseases. In senior homes, health caretakers often remind the medication time regularly for the elderly, and that task often occupies much time.

Solution Benefits

When the pharmacist receives prescriptions, the system can act as an assistant using visual recognition and big data to provide confirmation to the pharmacists. When the prescriptions are confirmed, a medication plan will be automatically generated.

AI-driven pill recognition and verification of prescriptions are built-in into the system. Using computer vision and big data analysis, the stored medication will be compared with the medication database to avoid errors (e.g. dosage) made by  phamacists.Big data-driven prescription drug monitoring programs are built-in.

Technologies Applied

Our project utilises AI and sensing technologies to solve practical problems in medication. In short, our system adopts the following techniques: 

• Graph analysis connects to the medication database to avoid overdose or conflict in medication;
• Machine vision is used to recognize the prescribed pills;
• The stored pills are compared with the medication database to do verification;
• Friendly interactive functions are used as reminders for taking medication.

Target Users

User Profile / Persona:

To customers, we target to the people who need to take medication, long-term illness patients, or nutritional supplement users. Among them, we can use the business model of social enterprises for low-income groups. And for middle and high-income groups, advanced versions of products can be provided for commercial services. 
To business, we target to pharmacies, drug research companies, nursing homes, and so on.

User Scenario and Goals:

To customers, users often forget to take medication, repeat medication, or take medication incorrectly, no matter staying at home or going outside. 

To business, pharmacies, drug research companies, nursing homes or related institutions need to manage the pills takers’ medication adherence and collect the data about the medication behavior. 

We design the integrated solution combining the smart medicine management device and data analysis system in different scenario to solve the problems related to medication adherence and guarantee the safety and accuracy of medication behavior in order to improve the health quality.
